3.9. Lesson 8 - Creating an Invoice Template

Now that you've learned how to create and print an invoice, we'd like to tell you a little more about invoice templates.

If you want to print or e-mail invoices, you need invoice templates. Every time you export an invoice from the application to an HTML or PDF file, you need to use a template to indicate how the invoice should look.

Fanurio comes with a few predefined templates but it's very likely that you'll want to use your own templates. To make things easier, you can create a template by configuring the default template from File » Create Template. This action can help you specify your logo, the visible columns, whether pages are numbered or not, the page format (A4 or Letter) and many other things.

If the default template can't be configured to match your needs, you can contact us and we'll do it for you. There is also a guide on how to create invoice templates by hand if you want to do it.

So, if you want to create your own template, you can either:

  • Go to File » Create Template to configure the default template visually or

  • Modify a default template by hand.

Fanurio keeps the invoice templates in a predefined folder. To open that folder and see all the templates, go to File » Show Templates. You can change that folder from the application.

  • Go to the General section from Tools » Options to change it on Windows

  • Go to the General section from Fanurio » Preferences to change it on Mac

  • Go to the General section from Edit » Preferences to change it on Linux

A template can be edited using any text editor and the file must have the ftl extension.
