7.1. Version 3.5-rc (October 5, 2026)

This version introduces quotes and upgrades Fanurio to Java 21 and newer versions of its libraries, which makes future updates easier to deliver.

New Features and Improvements

  • Quotes: Quotes allow you to estimate goods and services for a client before work begins. Once the client approves a quote, you can convert it into a regular invoice.

    • Quotes view with filters and totals for the filtered results.

    • Statuses (Draft, Sent, Accepted, Rejected and Cancelled) that show where each quote stands.

    • Validity period, payment terms, revisions, and fields for an external reference (such as an RFQ number) and a PO number.

    • Automatic numbering, either sequential for all clients or separate for each client.

    • Quote templates for exporting quotes to HTML and PDF.

    • New quotes can be created by duplicating existing ones.

Quotes are optional and can be enabled from Business > My Business Details > Billing > Quotes. Enabling them adds the Quotes view to the application. You can find more details in the Working with quotes section.

Related changes to invoices and templates:

    • The template editor can edit both invoice and quote templates. Use File > Template Editor > Invoice Template or File > Template Editor > Quote Template.

    • The View Invoice and View Quote windows have a New link that opens the template editor to create a new template.

    • The default invoice template has an updated style (Liberation Sans font, lighter gray table header, increased spacing) that matches the new default quote template.

  • Markdown in HTML templates: Notes and descriptions written in Markdown can now be displayed as formatted text in documents exported with HTML templates. This requires a custom HTML template that uses the new markdown directive.

For instance, you can describe the commercial offer in a quote's description and document the technical terms in its notes, even if they run to several pages, using headings, lists and bold text. Both will appear formatted in the exported quote.

  • Swiss QR bills updated to QR Bill 2.3: QR-bills now follow version 2.3 of the standard, which accepts only structured addresses (street, postal code, town) since November 21, 2025. Unstructured addresses (address line 1, address line 2) are no longer used.

Because Fanurio doesn't have a house number field, the Address field is used as the street and must not contain the house number. If you need the house number on the QR-bill, you can set it from another field with the new properties parameter (see below).

The qrbill directive has a new properties parameter that can set any field of the QR-bill. Use it to override the values taken from the invoice, for instance to take the house number from another field.

QR-bills can also be generated in Romansh (language='RM'). This support comes from updating Swiss QR Bill for Java from version 2.2.1 to version 3.4.0.

  • EPC QR codes on invoices: An EPC QR code (known in Germany as GiroCode) lets clients in the SEPA area pay an invoice by scanning it with their banking app, without typing the IBAN, amount and reference.

A new section explains how to add one to an invoice template using the existing qrcode directive.

  • Amounts in words on invoices: Some tax offices require the invoice total to also be written in words (e.g. €1,500.60 as "Vienas tūkstantis penki šimtai eurų, 60 ct" in Lithuanian).

The new numbertext function writes numbers and money amounts in words in more than 40 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish and Lithuanian. It uses the same library as the NUMBERTEXT and MONEYTEXT functions of LibreOffice Calc.

  • Catalog items

    • Catalog items can be imported from CSV files from File > Import > Import Catalog Items.

    • Catalog items can now be managed from Business > My Business Details > Catalog and are documented in a new section.

  • Project colors: Projects can now have a color, making it easier to tell them apart at a glance. Colors are optional, so existing projects look the same until you give them one.

To set a color, click the small square at the end of the Name field when creating or editing a project. You can pick one of the suggested colors, which are readable in both light and dark themes, choose any custom color, or click No Color to leave the project without one. Project colors are documented in a new section.

  • User interface

    • The standard Windows and macOS dialogs are used to select files and folders, for example when importing or exporting data. Linux keeps the previous file dialogs because there is currently no reliable way to use the native ones.

    • The macOS menubar icon color adapts to the wallpaper color.

    • The macOS menubar icon uses a thinner stroke for a cleaner, more native look in the macOS menubar.

    • Time field durations accept values in new formats: h, m and s for hours, minutes and seconds (2h, 2h30m, 45m, 30s) and four digits for hours followed by minutes (0230). See all the duration formats.

    • The Show file on disk option is now available on Linux when exporting invoices, quotes, payments and reports. It opens the file manager with the exported file selected or, if that's not supported, the folder that contains it.

  • New design for the HTML user guide: The user guide has a new look and is easier to navigate.

    • Works properly on phone and tablet screens, not just desktop.

    • A sidebar lists all chapters and sections for quick access.

    • A breadcrumb at the top of each page shows where you are.

    • Longer pages have an "On this page" list to jump to a subsection.

    • Headings have a link icon for getting a direct link to that section.

    • Light, dark, or automatic theme, switchable from the header.

    • Code examples have a copy button.

This update applies to the HTML version only, the PDF version is unaffected.

Platform Upgrades

  • Runs on Java 21: Fanurio now runs on Java 21 instead of Java 11. The new version of Java makes the app run faster and smoother, delivering better overall performance. The supported platforms are Windows 10+, macOS 12+, and modern Linux distributions on a 64-bit (x64) architecture.

Fanurio no longer runs on older versions of Java (8 or 11) mostly because some of the third-party libraries require newer versions of Java. This change is relevant only to users who run the cross-platform or the Linux version because it requires Java to be installed separately. The macOS and Windows versions are bundled with Java 21 and no separate action is required.

Fanurio remains compatible with Java 17 primarily to support users on 32-bit (x86) Windows systems, as Java 21 and later versions no longer offer support for this platform.

  • FreeMarker 2.3.35: Updated FreeMarker from version 2.3.32 to version 2.3.35. This update is relevant only to expert users who need to create templates that use features available in newer versions.

  • Updated third-party libraries: Most of the libraries Fanurio relies on have been updated to recent versions, bringing the latest security and bug fixes. We also modernized how Fanurio is built, so future library updates and security patches can be delivered faster.

Bug Fixes

  • Tasks completed before their start date: Failed to create invoices, task reports and project reports for projects containing such tasks. The completed date can no longer be set before the start date, either when you edit a task or when it's marked completed automatically.

Tasks created with earlier versions may still have invalid dates. To find and fix them:

    1. Go to the Tasks view and set the Status filter to Completed.

    2. Right-click any column header and check Completed In. This new column shows how many days it took to complete each task (Completed Date - Start Date).

    3. Click the Completed In column header to sort in ascending order. Tasks with a negative value appear at the top.

    4. Double-click each of these tasks and change its Completed Date so that it's on or after the Start Date.

  • ZUGFeRD validation errors

    • BR-DEC-23: ZUGFeRD 2.1 invoices with the BASIC, EN 16931 or EXTENDED conformance level failed validation because invoice line net amounts had 4 decimals instead of 2:

[BR-DEC-23]-The allowed maximum number of decimals for the Invoice line net amount (BT-131) is 2.

If you use a custom ZUGFeRD template, format ram:LineTotalAmount with 2 decimals in the following files: zugferd2p1basic.ftl, zugferd2p1en16931.ftl or zugferd2p1extended.ftl.

    • BR-S-08: ZUGFeRD 2.0 and 2.1 invoices with the BASIC WL, BASIC, EN 16931 or EXTENDED conformance level failed validation because the taxable amount for each tax rate was calculated from the tax total instead of the invoice lines.

      If you use a custom ZUGFeRD template, use the invoice.getTaxableTotal(tax) placeholder for ram:ApplicableTradeTax/ram:BasisAmount in the following files: zugferd2p0basic.ftl, zugferd2p0basicwl.ftl, zugferd2p0en16931.ftl, zugferd2p0extended.ftl, zugferd2p1basic.ftl, zugferd2p1basicwl.ftl, zugferd2p1en16931.ftl or zugferd2p1extended.ftl.

  • Templates

    • Failed to save invoice templates with PDF attachments (e.g. ZUGFeRD invoices).

    • Failed to display images that had spaces in their names (for instance logo images referenced by invoice templates).

    • Letters with diacritics (e.g. some Polish letters) were not displayed correctly in PDFs exported with the default templates. The default templates now use Liberation Sans. To configure a different font, see this guide.

  • Import

    • Failed to import clients from Apple Contacts.

    • Failed to import iCalendar files.

    • Failed to import CSV formats.

  • User interface

    • Date pickers were too narrow to show the whole date.

    • HTML content could render at the wrong scale on certain monitors or display settings.

    • Double-clicking the empty area of a table to create a new record also opened the edit dialog for that record when the new row appeared under the mouse pointer.
